SERIO & BATTISTA BORGOGNO
PIEDMONT / BAROLO / CANNUBI
The Serio e Battista Borgogno winery is a testament to the transformative power of the Langhe region, which has transformed its humble origins into a bastion of unparalleled value. With a storied history of winemaking, the Borgogno family boasts of historic vineyards that have grown in prestige and value. The winery stands out for its commitment to preserving the genuine soul of the land and its ability to evolve with it.
For over a century, the Borgogno family has been producing wines of preeminent quality from one of the most coveted Barolo crus. The fifth generation perpetuates this legacy of distinction, expertly managed by Emanuela and Federica, with the guidance of the older generations. They possess a shared objective of elevating and preserving the integrity of their wines and vineyards, utilizing the terroir and biodiversity with the utmost reverence, imbuing each bottle with a sense of finesse and sophistication.
The legacy of Serio & Battista Borgogno continues to thrive in the vineyard and winery, passed down from generation to generation, with a deep love for the craft. Production is overseen by Marco Bolla and his daughter Emanuela, who lead each phase with the help of their team.
Located in the renowned Cannubi cru, the winery places great emphasis on the health and uniqueness of its vines. They exclusively employ natural products, utilizing grassing and abstaining from the utilization of herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers. Even in the cellar, endeavours are undertaken to mitigate any impact on the final product, which is attributed to the judicious selection of utilizing only large barrels, precluding the use of barriques.
“Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno is one of the most historic estates in Piedmont, with a number of core holdings in and around Cannubi. It’s been a number of years since I last tasted the wines, but I was quite taken with the two 2016 Barolos… Borgogno is an estate to watch.”– Antonio Galloni, Vinous

They benefit from an excellent south-eastern exposure. The soil, primarily composed of grey marls, imparts the wine with its refreshing elegance and tannic structure. This combination makes this vineyard a one-of-a-kind source for exceptional Barolo wines.

Notes: Barolo Cannubi is made from grapes grown on three different vineyards located on the top of Cannubi hill (Gourat, Battista, Nuova). The grapes are picked by hand each year, and are fermented separately in wooden vats. The final blend is determined by the weather conditions and the quality of the grapes, and in some vintages, a single vineyard is chosen to be used for the Barolo Cannubi Riserva. The wines are aged in large oak barrels. The end result is a wine that is elegant and delicate, with a balanced tannin structure and complex flavors and aromas that can change from year to year. While it is a wine that can be aged for long periods, it can also be enjoyed young.
